Monday 25th May - walks **** – Hatton Locks near Warwick – sunny and hot.

The much anticipated family holiday starts today when our two boys Robert and Daniel with their partners Hannah and Jay and of course the two Grandchildren, the lovely Arlo and Maeva make their way to the Great Barn at Trebandy a few miles from Ross on Wye:)
With the van packed we leave Felixstowe around 10 and have a really good drive west on dual carriage and motorway, the only downside is we are in the middle of a heat wave! With lunch time approaching we leave the M 6 at Birmingham and make a small detour to the Grand Union Canal at Hatton Locks. We park right next to the canal where there is a run of 21 locks, it was great to be back by a canal, we have missed them! It is very hot but we amble a mile down the canal towards Warwick and find a top spot in the shade under a bridge for our picnic before walking back to continue our journey with Mag now driving we finish the journey off the motorway, then just past Ross on Wye we head up a Farm track to the small hamlet that contains our accommodation for the week and very impressive it is too! We are the first to arrive, followed by Rob, Hannah and Arlo with Dan, Jay and Maeva arriving at 7.45 as they didn’t leave Felixstowe until gone 3! It was great to get everyone together under one impressive roof, Arlo and Maeva are great together despite their age difference, the bedrooms are quickly sorted and despite the heat we enjoy a Sheppard’s pie we made yesterday. We meet Sue who own the house who is lovely and tells us of several things to do locally, our son Robert knows the area well as they have biked and canoed so he has many ideas of things to do, its going to be great!!!
